St. Pete Time Bank

Our Mission and Goals

Our Mission is to provide the tools that make it easy for our members to exchange goods and services for the purpose of greater well-being in our lives, neighborhoods, and community.  We do this through the daily practice of our core values.

Those values are:

Assets:  We believe that everyone of us has something of value to share with someone else.

Redefining Work: We believe that there are forms of work that money will not easily pay for. They include the work of raising healthy children, building strong families, revitalizing neighborhoods, making democracy work, advancing social justice, and making the planet sustainable. We value these actions, record them and reward them Time credits were designed to reward, recognize and honor that work.

Reciprocity: We believe that helping works as a two-way street which empowers everyone involved – the receiver as well as the giver. Every exchange demonstrates that two-way street.  Some people give, some people receive, and everyone benefits. The classic “pay it forward” approach has been a pattern of human societies throughout time. It ensures that, together, we help each other build the world we all will live in.

Community: We believe that by helping each other, we reweave communities of support, strength & trust. Community is built by sinking roots, building trust, creating networks. By using time banking, we can strengthen and support these activities.

Respect:  We believe that every human being deserves respect.  Respect underlies freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and everything we value. Respect supplies the heart and soul of democracy. When respect is denied to anyone, we all are injured. And so, with time banking, we strive to respect where people are in the moment, not where we hope they will be at some future point.

The TimeBank has three main goals:

  • Strengthen the fabric of our community.

  • Serve people and give them a means to serve.

  • Establish new relationships and meet real needs of our community members.

While recognizing that each person has something to share, the overall community is strengthened when neighbors help one another. For every hour that you help meet the needs of another member, you earn a time credit for the exchange. This time credit can then be redeemed for services from others, and the never-ending cycle of sharing continues.

If you are aligned with our mission and our core values, we extend a warm invitation for you to join us:
